Agregado Familiar
Household Composition
Last updated:
Your household composition for tax purposes: spouse, dependents, and filing status. Must be confirmed on the AT portal by February 15 each year.
Your agregado familiar is the household composition that AT uses to calculate your IRS. It includes your marital status, whether you file jointly or separately, and how many dependents you have.
Why it matters
The agregado familiar directly affects your tax calculation. Each dependent reduces your tax bill. Joint filing vs. separate filing changes which brackets apply. Getting this wrong means paying more tax than you should, or filing incorrectly and triggering a correction later.
The February 15 deadline
Every year between February 1 and 15, AT opens a window to confirm or update your household composition on the Portal das Finanças. If your life changed during the previous year (you got married, had a child, separated) this is when you report it.
If you don't confirm by February 15, AT uses the previous year's data. There's no extension and no way to update it after the window closes.
How to confirm
Log into the Portal das Finanças, navigate to IRS → Agregado Familiar, review the details, and confirm. If anything changed, update it before submitting. The process takes about 5 minutes.

Pré-preenchimento vs Confirmado
When you download your Agregado Familiar comprovativo from the AT portal, you may see one or two documents for a given year:
- Pré-preenchimento (document ID starts with
MGAG), AT's automatic carry-forward, published on the portal in late December (typically around Dec 20) for the year you'll be filing. Starts from last year's confirmed state but may silently absorb changes pushed by AT or Seg Social (e.g. a dependent aging out, an address update from another AT record). This is the default AT uses for your IRS filing if you don't override it. - Confirmado (document ID starts with
AGR), a record the taxpayer (or their consultant) actively submitted during the Feb 1–15 window. Supersedes the pré-preenchimento for that year. Appears only when a taxpayer-initiated change is registered.
Both are authoritative AT records. Most years, most taxpayers only have a pré-preenchimento, no taxpayer-initiated change was needed. A Confirmado appears only when the taxpayer triggered an update (marriage, birth, divorce, new dependent classification, address correction).
Read the pré-preenchimento carefully. Because AT and Seg Social can silently adjust the carry-forward, the MGAG may not match what you filed last year. If you disagree with what it shows, submit a Confirmado in the Feb 1–15 window to override.
For Descodify's household confirmation on the Confirm step, upload whichever is the most recent for the tax year you're filing. If you have both for the same year, the Confirmado wins.
Frequently asked questions
What is the agregado familiar?
The agregado familiar is your household composition as registered with the tax authority. It determines whether you file IRS jointly or separately, how many dependents you claim, and which tax benefits apply. Changes in marital status, children, or custody arrangements must be reported.
When do I need to confirm my agregado familiar?
Between February 1 and February 15 each year. You confirm or update your household details on the Portal das Finanças. If you don't confirm by the deadline, AT uses last year's data, which could mean missing a dependent deduction or filing jointly when you shouldn't.
What happens if I miss the February 15 deadline?
AT defaults to whatever was on file from the previous year. If your situation changed (marriage, birth of a child, divorce), those changes won't be reflected in your IRS filing. You can't retroactively update the agregado familiar after the deadline.
